Purpose of Qualification
The purpose of this qualification is to provide a foundation for a variety of design-orientated
fields, in that the learner gains competencies in the generic processes of various design
specialisations. The qualification formalises sets of competencies and combinations of systems
to help to accumulate expertise in this area of learning. Experiential knowledge is an important
aspect of this qualification, as its application reaches across different fields, assisting in
accelerating the learning of people who may have previously been denied opportunities in
formal training or employment. An important part of achieving this qualification is for the
learner to explore and experiment.

Grade 11 or equivalent NQF 3 qualification.
This qualification was developed to allow for further study in Information Technology Design Techniques Level 5 and related fields at Higher Education levels. It will allow the
qualified learner to progress to further qualifications in Graphics Designing or other IT domains, or in related industries where Designing is a key component.
Assessment of Programme
Assessment is conducted as both Formative and Summative Assessments. The Formative Assessment is covered as Continuous Assessment Tests and compilation of a Portfolio of Evidence by the student. The Summative Assessment takes place as a National Summative Exam for Semester 1 and Semester 2. It is compulsory for all students to complete WIL for the completion of the programme.
